Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. metro area

Terrain details

MVRsimulation's Washington D.C. metro area terrain is one of VRSG's 3D urban environment replica datasets. The terrain was built using 1-meter NAIP imagery and 10-meter elevation data.

The terrain includes untextured buildings that were initially provided by CyberCity 3D, and MVRsimulation textured them using ESRI's CityEngine software. The CyberCity 3D building models were created using stereo imagery. In total more than 133,600 buildings are included in the terrain project.

In addition to buildings, several thousand tree models have been populated throughout the D.C. area, reflecting real-world tree heights. The tree locations and their heights were provided by Open Data DC. Roads were compiled using microtexture polygons that accurately reflect the width of the roads, also sourced from Open Data DC. The Potomac River was compiled with 3D water textures.

The Washington D.C. dataset is part of VRSG's Northeast CONUS NAIP terrain drive.
