FPV Team Trainer

FPV Team Trainer

FPV Team Training System

MVRsimulation’s self-contained FPV Team Training System provides a flexible, phased training solution for stand-alone and networked FPV UAV operations for groups in multiples of four on team FPV UAV operations, tactics and strategies.

The internally-developed FPV Team Trainer builds on the capabilities offered by the MVRsimulation individual FPV UAV Simulator to provide interconnected team-based FPV drone operations training for four or more trainees. The FPV Team Trainer allows users to begin with the basics of sUAS flight training and progress through a more complex training syllabus that requires coordination between individual FPV drone pilots. In this way, trainees learn to operate in a way that reflects the reality of real-world battlefield FPV operations, including swarm attacks on virtual targets and full integration into the tactical airspace alongside Joint Fires Teams air and ground simulations for Large Scale Combat Operations (LSCO) training exercises.

Crawl, Walk, Run

Designed to support training for FPV UAV tactics in a ‘Crawl, Walk, Run’ style syllabus, the FPV UAV Team Trainer meets requirements for full-spectrum FPV UAV training and tactics. Beginning with basic sUAS flight training with dynamic physics-based flight models for the individual trainee. Trainees can work through progressively more complex FPV UAV mission use cases, including flying in different environmental conditions, working with ATAK, operating in swarms, succeeding in challenging EW environments, all the way through to fully integrated operations with Joint Fires controllers in the contested airspace.

Phase 1: Crawl

Primary Drone Flight Training

Get to grips with the basic operation of agile FPV UAV drones by training to fly accurate physics flight models and strike 3D targets in a high-res virtual world provided by VRSG.

  • Platform-specific flight dynamics
  • Configurable propulsion settings
  • Attachable payloads
  • Configurable battery lifespans
  • Configurable environmental conditions
  • Outdoor and interior flight
  • Fly with/without HMD Goggles

Phase 2: Walk

Beyond Basic Flying

Move beyond basic flight training. Learn to navigate effectively in geospecific terrain, employ survivability tactics, and incorporate situational awareness and C2 tools.

  • Route selection
  • Target acqusition and identification
  • Creating effective smokescreens
  • Perch and stare ISR
  • Impact point selection/practice
  • Working with ATAK
  • Basic radio communications

Phase 3: Run

Team Tactics

Carry out training for complex FPV team operations including drone ISR and hunter/killer strikes, as an integrated Joint Fires tool in the tactical airspace.

  • Advanced ATAK
  • Viewing ISR feed and drone feed
  • Coordinate taking down convoys
  • Dealing with EW
  • Working with JTACs
  • Effective radio communications
  • True swarm operations

Scalable configuration

The FPV Team Training System is scalable to provide training for groups of four or more students. A single FPV-4SHIP kit provides a dedicated station for four trainees, consisting of equipment to run group FPV UAV training missions on the shared network. Equipment is packaged in a single Pelican case with custom foam for easy transportation to training sites. All equipment is configured to boot in a ready-to-fly state once connected and powered-on.

The FPV Instructor Operator Station (IOS) provides all equipment required to design and manage training scenarios for one or more FPV-4SHIP kits. The Instructor/Operator can monitor trainee FPV video and ATAK feeds in real-time and communicate with trainees over PTT voice communications. A single FPV-IOS kit can network with up to five FPV-4SHIP kits, and multiple FPV-IOS kits can be interconnected to further expand the training capability, providing training for large groups in a classroom-style setting. The FPV-IOS station can record training exercises, including voice communications, for after-action-review (AAR).

Each FPV-4SHIP trainee kit consists of the following equipment packaged in a wheeled Pelican case:

  • 4x small form factor PC running VRSG to simulate drone video feeds and emulated radio software
  • 4x hand-held Gaming PC running drone flight dynamics software
  • 4x COTS Android Tablet running ATAK
  • 4x push-to-talk (PTT) Headset for communicating on a simulated radio network
  • 4x FPV Goggle for viewing the drone video feed
  • 1x 18 Port Gigabit Ethernet switch and cables ( 16x1Gb + 2x 10Gb)
  • 1x power strip

The FPV-IOS kit includes the following equipment packaged in a commercial airline compliant carry-on backpack:

  • 1x rugged laptop running VRSG to simulate drone video feeds, MACE for mission control, and emulated radio software
  • 1x hand-held Gaming PC running drone flight dynamics software
  • 1x COTS Android Tablet running ATAK
  • 1x push-to-talk (PTT) Headset for communicating on a simulated radio network
  • 1x 10Gb backbone switch with interconnect cables/transcievers
  • 1x power strip

The configuration can also be easily tailored by MVRsimulation to suit the training needs of those users with static classroom requirements; and for those wanting custom set-ups for specific trainee numbers.

Fully-networked

The FPV Team Trainer can be fully-networked to other training simulators that run industry-standard DIS/CIGI protocols for joint training operations in a shared virtual world rendered by VRSG.

This includes MVRsimulation Joint Fires simulation systems, such as the Deployable Joint Fires Trainer (DJFT), Portable Joint Fires Trainer (PJFT). It also includes third-party and in-use program of record systems including the dome-based JTC TRS suite of simulators; along with simulators configured as manned Close Air Support aircraft, and MALE RPAS sensor operator simulators. In this way, the FPV Team Training System supports full spectrum training operations for the evolving battlefield.

Portable and deployable

A single FPV Team Training System Kit is packaged in a single Pelican case with custom foam for easy transportation to training sites. All equipment is configured to boot in a ready-to-fly state once connected and powered-on.

Instructor Operator Station Kit can be packaged in a commercial airline carry-on sized backpack, or a separate Pelican case.
