MVRsimulation News Issue 61, Winter 2021

Welcome to the MVRsimulation Winter 2021 newsletter.

We are quickly approaching the end of the year - which for the training and simulation community means one thing: I/ITSEC is here.

This year MVRsimulation technology can be seen and demonstrated in a range of our partner company booths. Experiencing VRSG in use on simulators is by far the best way to understand what the technology is capable of, so be sure to visit the below booths to see our solutions in action. To arrange a specific time with an MVRsimulation representative, please email marketing@mvrsimulation.com and we will set up a meeting.

Before you arrive, be sure to take a look at our new Part Task Mission Trainer (PTMT) video, featured below. The simulator will be running demonstrations in the Varjo and Battlespace Simulations booths throughout the week at I/ITSEC - don't miss it!

We are also announcing two big software releases: VRSG version 7.0 and Terrain Tools version 2.0. With a host of new enhancements and features, both are already available for download for users on active software maintenance. We have also introduced a new high-resolution geospecific 3D terrain of Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport (KAMA), and the city of Amarillo, TX. Created with sub-inch imagery, this culture-rich dataset will be available on MVRsimulation’s CONUS++ South Central region 3D terrain in Q1 2022.

As we have now moved over to our new domain, if you have an account on MVRsimulation's Downloads Server please update your saved link to mvrsimulation.com. Your login credentials remain the same at our new domain.

As always, we welcome your feedback and requests for new software features and models - developed by our team free-of-charge for users on active software maintenance. Our user community helps us shape our technology development here at MVRsimulation, so please get in touch with any comments at support@mvrsimulation.com.

Finally, as this is our last newsletter for 2021 we'd like to take this opportunity to wish all our friends, partners and colleagues a happy and safe holiday season!

With best wishes,

The MVRsimulation team.

Video: PTMT integrated with Varjo XR-3 headset

Here is a first look at the MVRsimulation fixed-wing Part Task Mission Trainer (PTMT) integrated with the Varjo XR-3 mixed reality headset. The PTMT is a low-cost, all-aluminum welded cockpit-based simulator for military fixed-wing pilots. By integrating the XR-3 headset, we have increased suspension of disbelief for PTMT pilots, allowing them to interact with both the physical cockpit controls and the real-time virtual world created by VRSG’s high-resolution geospecific terrain and 3D models. Computer-generated/semi-automated forces are managed via integration with Battlespace Simulations’ MACE.

Our implementation shows high speed/low altitude simulated flight over geospecific, full country terrain, dense urban building structures and airfields. It supports rapid pilot head movements coupled with real time eye gaze visualization for improved after action review and enhanced training progression.

The result is a truly mixed reality training environment that allows large numbers of live players to practice mission tactics in peer/near-peer complex training scenarios, such as penetrating advanced adversary air defenses, air-to-air/air-to-ground engagement, and achieving and maintaining air supremacy.

The self-contained, all-aluminum welded cockpit-based simulator will be running high speed, low altitude air-to-air and air-to-ground missions over MVRsimulation's high-res, geospecific dense urban terrain of Albacete, Spain, and 3D replica of the Los Llanos Air Base. The XR-3 enables full immersion in the virtual world and real-time eye gaze visualization, while pilots interact with cockpit hardware. Computer-generated/semi-automated forces are managed via integration with Battlespace-Simulations’ MACE.

MSAT RPA/UAV Simulator Demonstration: In SAIC's booth, VRSG is being demonstrated as part of the U.S. Army Joint Technology Center and Systems Integration Lab’s (JSIL’s) MJAT Stand Alone Trainer (MSAT), which uses GCS-like hardware to provide a training-only solution for pilots and sensor operators of the General Atomics Aeronautical Systems MQ-9 Reaper/Predator RPAS. In the MSAT, VRSG simulates the Reaper's camera payload by streaming real-time HD-quality H.264 video with KLV metadata. This allows operators to train using the same hardware that they use to operate the actual aircraft in real-world missions, stimulating actual ISR systems and interoperating with networked JTAC simulators.

Recent sales

This year Lockheed Martin, our long term customer of over 20  years, renewed software maintenance for 267 existing VRSG software licenses and purchased 75 new VRSG licenses for undisclosed program use.

Notable sales this quarter include 51 VRSG licenses ordered for the U.S. Air Force's MQ-9 Reaper MALET-JSIL Aircrew Trainer (or MJAT) program, with a total of 727 license renewals for the program in 2021. In this program, VRSG is coupled with government off-the-shelf software to create a ground control station simulator for MQ-9 pilot and sensor operator crew training.

Bell Flight has ordered 16 additional VRSG rack mount IG licenses for simulators at its engineering lab in Ft. Worth, TX. Bell uses simulation during flight control development at the lab, along with MVRsimulation's geospecific 2 cm per-pixel resolution virtual terrain of two target ranges on the Fallon Range Training Complex at NAS Fallon.

MVRsimulation's new Deployable Joint Fires Trainer (DJFT) has also secured its first order. Existing VRSG user, the USAFE-AFAFRICA Warrior Prep Center, has ordered the system for delivery in Q1, 2022. The portable joint fires training solution is designed to provide a quick-deploy capability for JTAC and Forward Observers to train alongside fixed- and rotary-wing aircrew within a fully immersive, joint training environment. The order for a full system includes all hardware, software and three user stations (Observer, Aircrew and Instructor) needed to run dynamic, full-spectrum JTAC/Joint Fires training scenarios.
